| Glossary Term | Description |
| Project Dates | Project dates control the start and finish dates of the Project. All modules items are validated against these dates, all dates must be equal or within the Project date range. |
| Project Start Date | The start date is baselined when the project moves into the execution phase and remains unchanged during the lifecycle of the project. All scheduled tasks start date has to be equal or greater than the Project Start Date. The accuracy of the start date is important for effective forecasting and variance tracking. |
| Project Baseline Finish Date | The Baseline Finish date is set when the project moves into the execution phase. Once the Baseline Finish Date has been set, it can only be changed via an Approved Change Request. To update task's baseline end dates based on a new project baseline finish date, the plan will need to be re-imported via a CSV file. The accuracy of the baseline finish date is important for effective forecasting and variance tracking |
| Project Forecast Finish Date | A project's forecast finish date is an estimated completiondate based on current progress and potential future delays |
| Overall Project Progress (%) | Displays actual progress % and calculated planned % as at 'today'. This information is used by Project Managers to track the progress of a project. |
| Overall Progress: Milestone Status | The current status of the milestone is sourced from the schedule and is based on the current percentage completed and progress against current dates. This helps PMs plan and review the overall schedule effectively. The statuses include: * Not Started - no progress percentage completed equals 0% * Work In Progress- percentage completed 1% < 100% and end date in the future * Not Completed - percentage completed 1% < 100% and end date in the past * Completed- percentage completed equals 100% |
| Overall Progress: Milestone Variance | The calculated variance provides the evidence on how the milestone is tracking, either ahead, on track or behind. Based on this information the PM can determine the impacts of the project progress and make changes to mitigate the impact if necessary. The calculation is based on: Not completed - estimated variance of days to complete milestone based on forecast dates and percentage (%) remaining Complete - calculated number of days between Baseline End Date and Forecast Finish Date |
| WBS | A work breakdown structure (WBS) is a hierarchical decomposition of a project into smaller components. It’s common to have three levels of decomposition in the WBS (eg, 1, 1.1, 1.1.1). You might have a fourth and even a fifth level in case of extremely complex projects. For most projects, however, three levels will suffice. |
| ID | The Task ID indicates the position of the task with respect to the other tasks. As you create tasks, Project automatically assigns the next number in the sequence of tasks as listed. This becomes the Task ID. |
| Task Name | The name of the task or activity that needs to be accomplished within a defined period of time. |
| Start Date | is the estimated start date for a task, which can be set by the task creator or a project manager. It is a prediction of when work will begin and can be used to create a project timeline or schedule. This date can be updated to an "actual" start date once the task actually begins. |
| End Date | is a projected completion date for a task. As it is an estimate that can help in planning, it may change as the project progresses. |
| Duration | Task duration is the amount of time required to complete a specific task, calculated as the difference between its planned start and completion dates. |
| Percent Complete | Task percent complete measures a task's progress. This is the current status of a task, expressed as the percentage of the task's duration that has been completed. You can enter percent complete for subtask/s, while percent complete for Parent task is auto-calculated by the system based on the subtask's progress. |
| Planned to Date | Expected planned percentage (%) completed as of 'today'. This is auto-calculated by the system based on task start-end date. |
| Assigned Resources | Are the people assigned to a specific task to ensure it gets completed. This process clarifies responsibility. Resources can be assigned individually or as a team. |
| Manually Scheduled | Manual scheduling offers more control for users who want to explicitly set dates for specific tasks. Dates are fixed and do not automatically adjust if preceding tasks change or dependencies are altered. |
| Predecessor | Predecessor is a task that must be completed before another task can begin |
| Successor | Successor is a task that depends on the predecessor to start or finish |
| Mark as Project Milestone | A project milestone is a significant event or checkpoint that marks a major accomplishment or a key decision point in a project's lifecycle. Milestones are used to track progress toward the project's ultimate goal and are often used to signify the start or end of a project phase. A project needs at least one milestone but often large projects can have multiple milestones for effective monitoring. Additionally, milestones serve as core reference points for most weekly and monthly reporting. |
| Mark as Portfolio Milestone | A portfolio milestone is a significant point or event in a project's timeline that marks the completion of a major deliverable, the end of a phase, or a crucial decision point and has impact to the larger organization or portfolio. |
| Mark as Activity | Activities are the individual, actionable steps that must be completed in sequence to achieve the project goals. |
| Mark as Deliverable | Deliverables are the tangible or intangible outcomes produced to meet a project's objectives. They are the specific results that a project is created to deliver. |
| Baseline Start Date | A baseline start date is the original start date for a project task or milestone, which is set during the planning phase. It serves as a reference point, or snapshot, against which the actual start date is compared to track progress and performance. |
| Baseline End Date | A baseline end date is the original completion date for a task or project, established at the beginning or planning phase of a project. It serves as a fixed reference point to measure progress against the actual performance over time. |
| Workstream | A project workstream is a group of related tasks organized around a common objective to help break down a large, complex project into more manageable parts. Workstreams divide a project into focused areas, making it easier to manage and track progress. |
| Milestone Summary | A summary of all the project milestones. All milestones (Project and Portfolio) will be automatically displayed in the ‘Milestone Summary Table’ within the ‘Schedule’. The Table provides an overview of the progress of the milestones against dates and planned percentage. |
